The nominating sub-committees have continued to work diligently over the last month and here are their latest progress updates as of April 30.
Educating and Communicating: we continue to support other committees in sending diocesan wide announcements, links to sub-committee documents, and regular progress reports. There are now additional FAQs on the diocesan website.
Listening and Surveying: the work of the listening session-survey subcommittee has completed its work and the members have been reassigned to assist other teams.
Profiling: we completed and distributed our electronic profile throughout the wider church and on diverse social media forums, calling for applications to be submitted. We are printing 350 copies of the profile and will distribute them to each congregation in the diocese so that everyone has a chance to see the fruits of the listening sessions and survey.
Nominating and Screening: we completed the task of calling for nominations and applications by sending links to the application process to all entities in the Episcopal Church and placing an advertisement in the daily Episcopal Digital Network email. We also developed guidelines the Bishop Nominating Committee members used as they reviewed initial applications prior to the first screening exercise. The Bishop Nominationg Committee met at Good Samaritan on April 21 to complete the initial process of paper screening of submissions of candidates who have discerned a call to become the fifth bishop. The meeting was facilitated by our consultant, Rev. Ann Hallisey and following a day long prayerful discernment, candidates were selected to move on to video interviews.
Online Interviewing and Retreat: now that the paper applications have been reviewed and the initial screening is complete, the work of committee is in full swing. We have been crafting questions that will soon be finalized for use with the candidates we have invited to participate in online interviews. Interview teams will now begin to schedule video interviews during May and each member of the committee will individually review all the recorded video interviews prior to the next full meeting of the committee scheduled for the end of June when we will come together to discern who will move forward in the process.
